Bullet Train
The end is coming near for the original bullet trains in Japan. The last bullet train will run in October.
I remember riding the bullet train for the first time in 1984. What an experience!
Here's my tribute to one of the best trains in the world.

Happy Shiny People :)
This is an advertisement I found on the Saikyo JR Train going from Ikebukuro to Shinjuku.
It's trying to promote peace and happiness if you use JR's SUICA card system.
The SUICA card system is like a security card type system. You just have to pass it over a reader and you can go write through the entry and depature gates of the train station. It's quite convenient and smooth flowing.
Wish people really smiled in Tokyo sometimes!

Happy Sumo Life!

Got rice?
Taking a taxi home last night I saw this car with one of the strangest stickers.
Imagine this, a Skyline GTR with a sticker on the back of it saying "Got Rice?" What the hell is going on?
Here's the picture:
Taken with my cell phone. This is damn handy!

Train Ad
Today when taking the train, I found the following ad:
The ad is basically trying to help keep the privacy of famous people in Japan.
With the profileration of cellphone cameras, everyone potential has the ability to take pictures anytime.
When I went to the Eminem concert, last month, the number of people taking pictures with their phones was crazy. Some cell phones have video capabilites too and people were filming the whole concert.
What do you think? (*Note - the picture was taken with my cellphone :) )

Hello Kitty Scooter?
I think I've seen everything now!
Have the Japanese gone too far?

My newest digital camera
I picked up a new digital camera last month. Actually, it's my cell phone, emailer, scheduler, digital music player, and video camera!
Here's a pic of it:
It takes about a 1.3 megapixel picture and has a lot of editing capabilities.

Tanabata 7-7-03
Today is Tanabata.
Basically, Tanabata, or the Star Festival, is held on the evening of July 7. The festival traces its origins to a legend that the Cowherd Star (Altair) and Weaver Star (Vega), lovers separated by the Milky Way, are allowed to meet just once a year--on the seventh day of the seventh month.
Children and adults write their wishes on narrow strips of colored paper and hang them, along with other paper ornaments, on bamboo branches placed in the backyards or entrances of their homes. They then pray hard that their wishes will come true.

Site updated
I finally took some time to update my site to a more blog style.
I'm not sure that I like the look and feel of it yet but had to change it from the way it was.
Any suggestions to improve the site?

Nebuta paper float
Picture taken at Maru Biru (New Maronouchi Building)
Happen to have dinner at the new Maru building in Maronouchi and to my surprise they had this "toro" (wooden structure cover in rice paper and lit by lanterns) sitting in the middle of the atrium!!
This thing is huge!
Height: 20 meters
Weight: 15 tonnes
Light bulbs: 528
It took 5 days to set it up. What a treat!!
This festival takes place in Aomori (the northern tip of Japan - right before Hokkaido)during the first week of August.
